San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association Kicks Off New School Partnership Program with $2,000 Donation to Riordan High School

San Francisco, CA — The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (SFDSA) has launched a new high school partnership initiative through its charitable nonprofit, Protecting San Francisco. The program begins with a $2,000 donation to Archbishop Riordan High School, supporting football, boys wrestling, and girls wrestling programs with new uniforms and equipment.

This marks the start of an ongoing commitment to donate to three high schools each year, strengthening community relationships and encouraging students to pursue future careers in public safety.

Honoring Tradition and Investing in the Future

Archbishop Riordan High School was selected as the first recipient due to its deep ties with the law enforcement community. Many current and retired San Francisco deputies are Riordan alumni, and the school’s values of leadership, service, and teamwork align perfectly with the mission of the SFDSA.

“We’re proud to give back to a school that has given so much to our members,” said SFDSA President Ken Lomba. “Our goal is to inspire young San Franciscans to lead, serve, and maybe even join us one day as Deputy Sheriffs.”

A School of Academic and Athletic Excellence

Located on Frida Kahlo Way, Archbishop Riordan High School is recognized for both its academic rigor and athletic achievement.

  • Offers 18 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and maintains a 15:1 student–teacher ratio, providing individualized instruction.

  • Competes in the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) — one of the state’s top athletic conferences.

  • Known for outstanding football and wrestling teams, producing student-athletes who exemplify determination, respect, and community spirit.

The SFDSA’s donation will help Riordan student-athletes obtain upgraded gear, apparel, and resources to enhance safety and performance during competition.

Building the Bridge Between Schools and Service

This initiative reflects the SFDSA’s ongoing effort to build positive partnerships between law enforcement and local schools.
Through Protecting San Francisco, the association aims to:

  • Foster community trust and engagement.

  • Support youth development through sports and education.

  • Create pathways for students interested in careers in law enforcement.

“Every time we connect with a school, we strengthen our bond with the next generation of San Franciscans,” said Lomba. “We’re not just protecting the city — we’re investing in its future.”

Looking Ahead

The Riordan High School donation is just the first step. The SFDSA will select two additional high schools this year to receive similar support, focusing on schools with strong community involvement and a commitment to student excellence.

Protecting San Francisco and the SFDSA look forward to expanding this program and continuing to give back to the communities we serve every day.
